Pacific Northwest Add Weekly Grain Summary
Cash Soft White Wheat - Pacific Northwest: Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat,
delivered by unit trains and barges to Portland during February ended the
reporting week on Thursday, January 31, as 8.70-8.8950 mostly 8.7975, 5.00 to
19.50 cents per bushel higher compared to last Thursday's bids for February
delivery of 8.65-8.70. There were no white club wheat premiums for nearby
delivery for this week or last week. One year ago bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat
and white club wheat for February delivery were 6.65-6.75, mostly 6.68. Nearby
bids for US 1 Soft White wheat began reporting week on Friday at mostly 8.6775
then moved higher to mostly 8.6950 on Monday, before falling slightly to mostly
8.68 on Tuesday and then moved higher to mostly 8.7475 on Wednesday. Today
(Thursday), the end of the reporting week bids moved slightly higher again to
mostly 8.7975. New confirmed export sales of white wheat this week were limited
to Taiwan. Forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: March 8.75-
8.8950, April 8.80-8.93, May 8.80-8.95 and August New Crop 8.0150-8.3650. One
year ago, forward month bids for soft white wheat were as follows: March 6.60-
6.85, April through June 6.70-6.85 and August New Crop 6.50-6.70.
Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of January 24, 2013 for the
marketing year beginning June 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2013, totaled 1019.1
thousand MT compared to 1077.2 thousand MT on January 17, 2012, and 1458.0
thousand MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2012-2013
marketing year were to the following countries in 1000 MT: Japan 190.1,
Philippines 167.5, Egypt 165.0, South Korea 152.4, Thailand 62.5, Nigeria 30.4,
Taiwan 9.6, Burma 4.0, Malaysia 4.0, Canada 1.6, Mexico 0.9, Hong Kong 0.8, China
0.5, Vietnam 0.5 and total unknown 229.3. Accumulated white wheat export
shipments as of January 24, 2013, in 1000 MT for the 2012-2013 marketing year,
totaled 3020.2 compared to 3279.8 one year ago.
Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of January 24, 2013 for the marketing
year beginning June 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2013, in 1000 MT, totaled 2.1
compared to 2.4 on January 17, 2012 and 0.2 one year ago. Outstanding barley
export sales for the 2012-2013 marketing year in 1000 MT were to the following
countries in 1000 MT: Japan 0.8, Taiwan 0.8 and South Korea 0.5. Accumulated
barley export shipments as of January 24, 2013 were 120.7 thousand MT compared to
82.6 one year ago.
Coarse feeding grains: Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in
single rail cars were 308.50-309.00, 5.75 to 6.00 per ton higher than last
Thursday's bids of 302.50-303.25. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to
the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Washington, and Hermiston, Oregon were
302.75-312.25, 5.00 to 6.00 per ton higher than last Thursday's bids of 296.75-
307.25. Bids for US 2 Heavy White Oats for February delivery held steady with
last Thursday's noon bids at 270.00.
