Wrong place to take this poll. If I go to a farmers market near a city results would be different

Dan your right. But the farmers know because they produce food. And know Organic
Food is a joke. It's just a way to get more $$ for your product.

With increasing world population that will need more food produced on the same
available land, we will need to use more fertilizer and reduce pests and diseases
affecting crops

Not neccisarily Mayamba. The current trend is use fertilizers and chemicals more
efficiently. Not only can we feed the world as things are now, but we can feed even
more if things such as the weather were more cooperative. The greatest cause of
hunger is not our ability to grow adequate amounts of food, but the ability to grow
that food where it is needed.

Are organic food healthier then conventionally raised foods? This is an apples to
oranges comparison. Most organically rasied crops are of the heritage varieties which
were chosen long ago for the main trait of tasting better. Modern crops were more of
less developed to survive high field densities and mechanical harvest. I find it hard to
believe those who say that organic is better when while living in a society that has a
pill or prescription for practically everything imagionable. Another thing to concider is
how the food is prepared. Organic foods generally are obtained as single ingedients
that must be prepared fresh for every meal. Learning how to cook can go a long ways
to a healthy lifestyle.

Actually, the sale of conventionally produced food as organic IS a crime. If someone is caught selling conventional product as organic, they are subject to an $11,000 civil fine PER SALE, and possible jail time. To put that in perspective, that is $11,000 every time a fraudulent load of milk leaves a dairy farm. Certifiers review paperwork and conduct an extensive inspection on all aspects of an organic operation every year. Unannounced spot inspections are conducted, and if an operation is found to be fraudulent, their organic certification is revoked. If the fraudulent activity is egregious enough to compromise organic integrity in the marketplace (such as the sale of conventionally produced food as organic), the operation is subject to the civil penalties listed above. There are people currently serving time in federal prison for selling conventional product as organic. If you suspect fraud, I recommend reporting it to the USDA National Organic Program.
