If elections were decided by popular vote it completely change the way our elections work, and not for the better. The Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing when they set up the electoral college. It gives the small states a say in the election along with the large states. Without it, just a few large states would control the whole election. If you want to see government grow even faster and our rights reduced even further, then you should support the popular vote.
The fact that 68% of those polled thus far say yes is an indication of how pathetic our education system is in this country. A popular vote system would fast track a complete government takeover of every aspect of our lives. Remember popular has nothing to do with area. Look at a map and think about where most of the population is located. Now ask yourself if you want the residents from those areas controlling your life more than they already do. There is more than likely a huge difference in what you think is best and what they think is best and the Electoral College is the only thing that prevents them from imposing their will on you.
If you get rid of the electoral system then you let big cities elect. The most mindless voters are big city voters. Most can't even name the president or vice president. They have no idea that milk comes from a cow...
