Chopping corn at the right moisture level is the most important management factor for making high-quality silage. The warm, dry season has caused a range of field conditions and has hastened maturity.

Eric Young of the Miner Agricultural Research Institute in Chazy, N.Y., looks at some of the factors that indicate fields are ready for chopping.
