The University of Wisconsin-Extension Dairy Team has created six training modules to help you train and improve the skills of dairy workers.
The Dairy Workers’ Training Program features separate modules covering skills related to milking, reproduction, calf management, herdsmanship, feeding, and handling skills.
All teaching materials include both English and Spanish versions and can be tailored to your specific training needs. The materials are available in a three-ring binder format or electronically.
Additional supplemental pieces have been developed to be used in conjunction with the training curriculum or separately. One piece is a DVD, “Fresh Cow Exam,” featuring Dr. Sheila McGuirk, UW-School of Veterinary Medicine, with a step-by-step approach to conduct examinations in the fresh pen.
Also available is a set of laminated calf management protocol cards in English and Spanish that can be used anywhere on the farm.
