Did Carrie Underwood sway Tenn. ‘ag gag’ veto?

Carrie UnderwoodCredit: Carrie Underwood | Facebook Country music star Carrie Underwood’s now-famous tweet in April scolded Tennessee lawmakers for passing the state’s so-called “ag gag” bill and warned Gov. Bill Haslam that she would be “at his front door” if he signed it.

Now, the Associated Press looks back at the issue, showing that Underwood did more than just find her voice on Twitter. Haslam contacted Underwood directly to discuss the issue.

"He really just wanted to hear everybody's point of view, which I really respected," Underwood said in a recent interview. "So it's kind of neat that (tweet) led to that, which was really cool."

Dave Smith, Haslam’s spokesman, said that the governor spoke to people on both sides of the issue, though Underwood was the only celebrity counsel he sought. Read more here.

Haslam later vetoed the bill, saying that while agriculture is Tennessee’s top industry, he still had “a number of concerns" regarding the bill.

Now that the hoopla surrounding the bill has died down, Underwood has since turned her attention to concerts, her upcoming Sunday Night Football gig ― and the Oklahoma tornados. An effort by Dairy Herd Management to contact Underwood’s publicist, asking whether the country music start still feels the same against farm protection efforts, went unanswered.

Who is Carrie Underwood? ... I have never heard of her? ... I know who Taylor Swift is, Taylor is the girl that has all the fans and wins every award ... Is Carrie the funny girl that cut off her hair for her Cancer friend and won dancing with the star's?

Carrie is that old reality TV singer, the one that everyone in her hometown booed at the CMA music festival this year. Carrie cant even sell out 1 concert in her hometown of Nashville as it was only 2/3 full with 9,834 fans. Taylor Swift has 3 sold out shows in Nashville to 14,324 each concert. No one cares what Carrie say's since she cant even sell out 1 concert In her hometown :)~

How can you not know who Carrie is? She was the winner of American Idol, has had 17 #1 singles, won EOTY twice, has sold out tours all over the US, Canada and overseas. And, is country's sweetheart! Swift can't hold a candle to Carrie. Carrie can actually SING! Come out from under your rock and listen to country music at its best.

Carrie just cant seem to sell out any of her concert tour's and her reviews suck and I quote @ Carrie Underwood underachieves in Oakland, Chalk it up as further proof that Underwood's live show remains the one glaring weakness to her game. This Oakland show hardly did banner business -- roughly 8,000 fans turned out to a building that can hold twice that many. http://www.mercurynews.com/music/ci_22669732/review-carrie-underwood-underachieves-oakland

Carrie is not from Nashville. She is from a small town in Oklahoma. I do not agree with her stance on agriculture. I fully support America's farmers and ranchers. However, you need to get your facts straight.

Ha were did you get those statistics from Taylor Swft.com. She cant sing at all, all of her songs are the same. Id care how many she has sold out that just shows how many tone def people there are in the world. Carrie will be around for years and Taylor Swift's popularity is already dying down. She has one of the best voices in all of music and is a sweet heart on the inside an out, unlike Taylor who is all fake!

Why is everyone down on Underwood? How can you even compare Swift and Underwood? They are two totally different singers who have totally different acts. They both do their thing and do it well. It's even possible to like both of them.

Love Carrie Underwood. Love her even more now. You can stand up for agriculture AND stand up for not torturing animals. Just google farm animals and abuse and it won't be hard to see the hell on earth these animals go through. It does not have to be that way. If your dog had to through what these millions of animals go through every day without a voice and no escape you would be heartbroken. Don't these animals deserve decent treatment? Why do you feel that animals should be tortured so that your food costs a little less. Really? Is that what kind of human being you are? Think about it before you have your knee jerk reaction. Think about it before you go to sleep tonight in your comfortable bed.

Chris Miller, why would you just assume that all farm animals are abused? That just doesn't make sense. Farm animals are well cared for and most always pampered. Think about it: Why would a farmer or rancher abuse a food aimal? It wouldn't produce! Go and see for yourself, somewhere around you must be a farm or a ranch that would be willing to show you their operation. This isn't about Music its about an abuse of power, Underwood using her star status to promote an agenda she knows very little about. Influenced by the HSUS many celebrities follow along blindly without doing their own research into animal rights and animal welfare.
