By-products can be used as alternatives to the feed ingredients normally used in dairy diets.

- Possible mycotoxin contamination
- Mineral content
- Excess dietary fat content
- High moisture level feeds
- Excess or deficit of fiber
- Crude protein content
- Animal performance
