Routine ketosis therapy: Is it beneficial?

Several research presentations at the 2011 American Association of Bovine Practitioners annual conference cast doubt on this practice, says David Wilson, extension veterinarian at Utah State University. In the July 2012 Utah State Dairy Veterinary Newsletter, Wilson summarizes the results of some of these presentations.

"More studies of long-term outcomes in cows treated or not treated for ketosis appear to be needed," Wilson concludes. "This is especially true with larger herds needing standard treatment protocols."
