 Resize text

Mastitis prevention has always been important on dairy farms. However, the dry period has sometimes been overlooked as a time to prevent mastitis from occurring.

An article in the August 2012 Kentucky Dairy Notes looks at management practices that can be implemented to prevent new infections during the dry period, including:

  • Antibiotic dry cow therapy
  • Teat sealants
  • Environmental management
  • Vaccination-J5 core antigen vaccines

Veterinarian Michelle Arnold explains more here.
