Mycoplasma mastitis: Detection and testing

Mycoplasma species cause disease in cattle of all ages. In calves for example, they cause pneumonia, arthritis, and ear infections. In dairy heifers and cows, they cause clinical and subclinical mastitis, metritis and pneumonia.

In the latest Michigan Dairy Review, Andres Contreras with the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University discusses signs of mycoplasma mastitis, identification of infected cows during an outbreak, milk sample collection/culturing and non-culture based mycoplasma tests.
