Administering antibiotics to all cases of clinical mastitis is not always necessary, and can result in unnecessary dumping of milk and economic loss.

Antibiotic treatment should be determined by culture results of each individual case of clinical mastitis, advises Christina Petersson-Wolfe, Virginia Tech Extension dairy scientist.
