What's on the horizon for mastitis detection?

There are many sources of information available that can offer guidance in the current cost of producing milk. However, these sources may have significant limitations because they use industry “standards” and not farm-specific financial data. The use of technology is becoming more and more important in dairy farming. 

“Given the economic importance of both clinical and subclinical mastitis, early detection of mastitis is one of the most exciting Precision Dairy Farming applications,” writes Jeffrey Bewley in the latest issue of Kentucky Dairy Notes.  “This is particularly true given increased emphasis on lowering SCC at the farm level.”

Bewley explains what technology is on the horizon and how it may be the way of the future in regard to mastitis detection.
