The Center for Dairy Excellence in Pennsylvania has published a “Top 10 in Dairy” list, advising Pennsylvania dairy producers of the top 10 issues they should know about as they approach the remainder of 2012. Highlights of the list include:

  • Milk margins in February fell to $10.02/cwt., the lowest level in the past 24 months. Based on milk futures prices and grain commodity price projections, margins are expected to become even slimmer as the year progresses
  • The U.S. Senate is moving forward with the 2012 Farm Bill. The bill is expected to contain the Margin Protection and Market Stabilization programs  for the Dairy Security Act as the major provisions in the Dairy Title
  • New market requirements are demanding higher-quality milk
  • All producers must ensure that they are compliant with the FDA’s drug residue policy
