You may or may not use feed additives in your milk feeding program. But if you do, it’s important to understand what and why you are feeding them to your calves.
On a recent tour of calf operations across the country, Jim Quigley, vice president and director of Calf Operations at APC Inc. in Ankeny, Iowa observed that dairy farmers don’t always understand why they use a particular additive.
Quigley also notes that it was surprising the wide range of additives being added to waste milk and milk replacer. Some farms made elementary mistakes in how products were fed and why.
Quigley shares his observations on additives and mistakes he saw in a recent issue of Calf Notes. Read Calf Note #153 – Know your additives.
Evaluating your milk feeding program could save you money and improve the health of your calves.
