Despite high feed costs and short feed supplies in the upper Midwest, springing heifer prices in Wisconsin jumped about $200 per head across the board in the past month. Pennsylvania, on the other hand, lost about $100 per head in springer value in the same time period. Despite this slight downturn, Pennsylvania heifer values remain the highest of the four monitored market areas. Holstein heifer calf prices were down slightly nationwide, with a precipitous drop in high-end calves in Texas. Last month, the high was $325, compared to $210 this month.
