The basic steps in cleaning calf-feeding equipment are well-known, says Sam Leadley, calf-care specialist with Attica (N.Y.) Veterinary Associates. But applying these steps is not always as easy as it might seem. It is easy to make errors.

Common errors include:

  • Inadequate rinsing
  • Using extra detergent to make up for inadequate rinsing
  • Washing water not hot enough
  • Watering too hard for detergent to work well
  • Using way too much acid.
