Calf respiratory disease

Dairy calf respiratory disease accounted for 22.5 percent of unweaned heifer mortality and 46.5 percent of weaned heifer mortality in the USDA NAHMS Dairy 2007 study. Respiratory disease can devastate the replacement heifer crop, but proper management of young calves at birth and beyond can go a long way toward reducing morbidity and mortality.
