Calf raisers interested in learning more about group-rearing systems have the opportunity to hear anecdotes, experiences and results from fellow producers at the 2012 Group Housed Calf System Symposium, Dec. 12-13, in Syracuse, N.Y.
An evening session on Wednesday, Dec. 12 will be tailored to producers who are new to using a group-housing system. Thursday’s day-long session will be devoted to broader issues of disease, feeding systems, barn ventilation and first-hand producer experiences.
Featured speakers will include Dr. Don Sockett, University of Wisconsin; Dr. Tom Earleywine, Land O’Lakes Animal Milk Products Company; and Dr. Neil Anderson, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Representatives from commercial entities involved in feeding and housing group-reared calves also will be present.
