Springer heifer prices nationwide remain virtually unchanged from month-ago levels, with the exception of California. There, the high-end price for top-quality springers dropped from $1,575 last month to $1,450 this month. The nationwide springer price has taken a precipitous turn downward compared to one year ago, with this month’s top end for best-quality springers ranging from $1,400 to $1,475. Last year, that range was $1,650 to $1,700. Holstein heifer calves are down month-to-month and year-to-year as well. Calf prices fell about $10.00 per head this month compared to last, and ranged from $25 to $210 nationwide. Last year at this time, that range was $75 to $290.
