Heifer prices held firm with last month at the most recent auctions. The high-end of top-rated springer heifers topped out at $1,500-$1,675. High milk prices in March and the need to replace cows due to heavy culling efforts and high prices for cull cows supported prices. Heifer calf prices were improved. Top-end calves in Stratford, Wis., jumped from $130 last month to $170. Calf prices in Texas were reportedly as high as $300, reports Greg Scheer, dairy analyst with with Doane Advisory Services in St. Louis, Mo.
