The last several months have been a real test of your leadership skills, says Bob Milligan, senior consultant at Dairy Strategies and professor emeritus at Cornell University. “One of the challenges with being a leader is that your persona needs to be countercyclical to what’s going on. So, while markets have been going down, your job is to keep your employees up. When things are good, it’s your job to keep your dairy from being complacent.”

Find an outlet for the stress that builds up from these requirements so that you don’t take it out on your employees and family, Milligan advises. Find a confidant, exercise, go fishing or discover whatever it is that gives you a break. Otherwise, you could undo everything you’ve worked so hard to accomplish.
