Podcast offers advice on aflatoxins

Many dairy farms are scrambling to find adequate forage supplies this year.

Corn silage that is available may be short on starch, increasing reliance on corn grain to meet dietary starch needs. This year, corn grain has been limited by drought stress.

“Unfortunately, stress on the corn plant can also lead to growth of molds that can produce mycotoxins,” says Mike Schutz, Purdue University extension dairy specialist. In a recent episode of the Purdue Dairy Digest podcast series, Schutz discusses the risk of aflatoxins from corn.
