Improve the accuracy of your feeding program

Many opportunities exist to improve your income over feed cost.

In the June 2012 Virginia Dairy Pipeline, Bob James, Virginia Tech extension dairy scientist, discusses three ways to improve the accuracy of your feeding program:

1)      Test forages monthly, regardless of herd size.

2)      Measure the dry matter of silage at least weekly or whenever you detect a change in feed quality.

3)      Improve feeding accuracy with the use of feed management software and hardware.
