Better identification aids fresh-cow exam

A fresh-cow exam moves along more efficiently if you can easily see a cow’s identification number while standing behind her. Instead of waiting for a cow to turn her head so you can see her ear tag, use flank chalk or a disposable adhesive tag on her rump. “You have instant access to some critical information that makes the exam more efficient,” says Sheila McGuirk, veterinarian at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
