Low-potassium hay cuts fresh-cow disorders

Low-potassium hay is the key to a successful transition period for cows at Endsley Dairy in Hastings, Mich. The addition of grassy hay with a potassium level of 1.0 percent to 1.8 percent to the dry-cow ration has reduced transition issues like ketosis, displaced abomasum and metritis by at least 25 percent.
