Self-Cleaning Sand Lane Wins AE50 Award

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers has announced that McLanahan Corporation—Agricultural Systems Division of Hollidaysburg, Pa., has won an AE50 award.

McLanahan Corporation developed the Self-Cleaning Sand Lane (SCSL), deemed one of the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries. The 2011 AE50 innovative new product winners were announced Jan., 6 during the ASABE Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference.

The McLanahan Self-Cleaning Sand Lane is a system for processing flushed or otherwise diluted sand-laden dairy manure. The McLanahan SCSL is an automated, quarry-duty system for separating sand from dilute manure at flow rates in excess of 6,000 gallons per minute.  The automated and consistent operation of the system allows for high recovery of clean sand.  Recycled SCSL sand is reused with milk cows in less than one week.
