RFID can save time
By Dairy Herd news staff  |  Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Using radio-frequency id tags with your management software can help reduce the time needed to do routine tasks on farm. John Lee, veterinarian with Pfizer Animal Health (formerly with the Atwater-Merced (Calif.) Veterinary Clinic), uses the following example:

At one 3,500-cow dairy, it used to take three employees 35 minutes to find and mark all of the cows needed for vet check. That’s a combined-labor time of 105 minutes. Now, with the use of RFID tags, a good scanner and DHI-Plus software, it takes two employees 10 minutes. That’s a savings of 85 minutes.
