Dairy support helps a governor keep his job

Dairy farmers helped keep Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in office on Tuesday.

In a decisive victory over Democratic challenger Tom Barrett, Walker retained the governorship in a recall election.

Gov. Walker carried most of the rural counties, while Barrett garnered support in urban counties where the cities of Milwaukee and Madison are located. Some of the top dairy counties -- Marathon, Manitowoc, Clark and Brown -- went big for Walker. See county-by-county results here.

One prominent dairy group in the state, the Dairy Business Association, had endorsed Walker prior to the election. DBA is comprised of dairy producers, corporate and allied industry supporters.

Walker also received the endorsement of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation.

In March, Walker unveiled the 30x20 Initiative to grow the state’s dairy industry. Specifically, it calls for the state to increase its milk production by 15 percent ― to 30 billion pounds ― by the year 2020. To read more and see a video, click here.

The 30x20 initiative is a joke. the idea is 30 billion# by 2020. I know of a way with no tax incentives or grants or free money that would do it in less than 2 years. Just pay us $25/cwt. The processors will have such a glut milk thay won't know what to do except drop the price down to $15/cwt.----Hey wait a minute Thats where we are at now.

I just love it when the powers that be keep wanting more milk. When you cant sell whats currently being produced or are at the whims of foreign governments, the only ones benefiting are processors and consumers. Oh yea, now it makes sense. Keep the food cheap and the dairy farmers poor.
