One man is dead following an accident involving a payloader on a dairy farm in Benton County, Ind.
According to WLFI 18, authorities in northwestern Indiana have identified the victim as Manuel Lino Mejia-Lamas, a 36-year-old worker at the Seven Hills Dairy near Goodland, Ind.
The accident occurred Wednesday evening when the bucket of a payloader operated by a fellow farm employee reportedly fell on Mejia-Lamas.
Emergency personnel were quickly called, but unable to save Mejia-Lamas. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is currently under investigation by the Benton County Coroner, the Benton County Sheriff's Office, and the Benton County Prosecutor.
Mejia-Lamas’s death marks the second blow to hit the Seven Hills Dairy Farm in the past few weeks. Earlier this month, a hay shed at the dairy caught fire, destroying 500 bales of hay.
