An early-morning fire destroyed a 106-year-old barn at a dairy farm near Shawano, Wis.,on Wednesday.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, it took fire crews hours to battle the blaze, which was still smoldering as of 12:30 p.m.

The dairy’s quick-thinking owners were able to rescue most of the cattle from the barn. Despite their efforts, however, officials estimate that three cows were killed in the fire.

Officials will continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
