As nutrition experts continue to confuse people over “do’s” and “don’ts” (that are often subject to change), there are only a few constants left.
Now, there’s concern about people getting too much calcium through calcium supplements.
Too much calcium? Isn't the problem too little calcium?
“It’s gotten very confusing but it doesn’t need to be,” Ethel Siris, director of the Toni Stabile Osteoporosis Center at Columbia University Medical Center, is quoted in this item in The Wall Street Journal on Monday.
According to the article, studies have linked calcium supplements to a higher risk of heart attacks and kidney stones.
Bottom-line: It’s fine to get calcium from food sources, such as milk. Supplements are a more iffy proposition.
