It’s National School Breakfast Week, and through Fuel Up to Play 60, the National Dairy Council and National Football League are partnering with Dean Foods and Share Our Strength to celebrate the most important meal of the day.

The year’s promotions include a video, seen above, that show how one middle school principal launched breakfast in the classroom and changed the lives of her students.

In particular, the pro-dairy partnership hopes to show that breakfast in school can make a difference.

Last year, one study found kids who eat school breakfasts miss fewer days of school, do better in math and are more likely to graduate high school. Read, “School breakfasts earn A+ for academic success.”

Despite this fact, more than 60 percent of students do not eat breakfast on a daily basis, whether it’s due to habits, morning routines or a lack of food security at home.

"Making sure that children get the best start to their day is part of our commitment to providing all of our children access to safe, nutritious, and well-balanced meals," Vilsack said in a new release last year to kick off National School Breakfast Week. "Eating breakfast helps maintain a healthy weight and gives our youngest generation the greatest chance at success."

When did it become the schools job to feed kids breakfast? Maybe they should feed them a meal before they leave school in the afternoon also. Maybe they should open the schools on the weekend to feed these kids so as not to burden the parents with making meals for THERE kids then also! How about the parents taking some responsibility and feeding there kids at home instead of relying on the school and the tax paying people to take care of them with free or reduced cost meals.
