Agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided two Michigan dairies last week as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged hiring of illegal immigrants.

immigration According WNEM News, ICE agents executed search warrants at Parisville Dairy in Huron County and Dunganstown Dairy in Tuscola County. At least three individuals were taken into custody during the raid at Parisville Dairy.

Officials have released little information surrounding the raid due to the investigation, but Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, who assisted in the Parisville Dairy raid, points to past problems at the dairy.

"We've been at that location in the last four years, five times. Three of those have involved illegal aliens," said Hanson.

However, Hanson believes that the dairy is only part of a much larger problem.

The raids occurred not far from Aquila Farms in Bad Axe, Mich., the scene of previous immigration raids. Owner John Verhaar and his wife were charged with employing illegal aliens. As part of their plea deal, the pair were placed on probation and ordered to pay a $2.7 million fine.

Since then, the dairy is reluctant to hire Hispanic workers and requires all job applicants to go through E-Verify. In an exclusive interview with Dairy Herd Network, Verhaar warned other dairy owners to be watchful during hiring.

“Know what you’re doing. Be very careful, because it could be a disaster,” Verhaar said.

When are they ging to stop pandering to illegal aliens? WHEN? All I keep hearing is comprehensive immigration reform, comprehensive immigration reform, comprehensive immigration reform. How about some comprehensive ENFORCEMENT reform to get the illegal aliens out of this country? How's this for an idea? Make entering this country illegally a felony. Make the fine $2500 plus one year in Federal prison. Make this the same on overstayed VISAs. If drugs are involved, triple the fine. Then, apply this to all the illegal aliens in this country now. Leave or if you get caught, the fine will apply to them. Maybe, just maybe, this will take the place of a fence that is costly and doesn’t seem to work all that well. It may even cut down on the cost of deporting these illegal aliens. The other thing is this birthright citizenship. We MUST end it. E-Verify in EVERY business and check EVERY employee. End FREE medical care for illegal aliens. End schooling illegal alien children. End food stamps for the illegal aliens. They have NO RIGHT to be here. Yes, let’s start with this..

So let me get this strait. You put on more cows than you could possibly take care of and are either unwilling to pay enough to keep local labor or have a bad labor reputation so people are unwilling to work for you, so now you need immigrant labor. I just wonder when this is going to blow up for the dairy industry?

Comprehensive immigration reform is all about making LEGAL VOTERS out of illegal workers. Amnesty grants citizenship and voting rights. When all the Hispanics can vote Texas will never be a Red state again.

Steve, if you think it is so simple to get people to do farm work maybe you should start a business to find these people. I will be your first client. Illegals are not sought out. They are the only ones who will help the farmers do the work. It's not that farmers are unwilling to pay enough. We pay employees all we can afford to pay them. Maybe you are in an area where labor is abundant and you can't comprehend what we are talking about. I wish people were that concerned about farmers making a living. This country better wake up and take care of it's farmers before it's to late. This is no way to treat people who feed you. These farmers are simply trying to make a living.

Wow really, I am a dairy farmer and know the problems with finding good employees. That said if you want to milk more cows than you can handle how is that my problem? Nobody forced you to add cows. If we didn't have mega dairies using questionable labor maybe more small dairies would still be around. If another industry built a factory where there is not a local labor force would you be willing to let them hire illegals? Just because your business plan hinges on low wages how is that my problem?

Hello Steve, you probably run a small farm yourself with no morgage, 100-150 cows, you can make a living from a smal place, but a lot of farmers are in a total different situation.

Against Amnesty, don't worry they will stop pandering illegals aliens. And because they are forcing to keep E-Verify system, now they are going to hired legal and skilled aliens to work, like me. So thanks to over pressure that point, because for a legal alien is EASIER get all that benefits you are saying are stolen for illegal aliens.

John not sure what having a morgage has to do with it. Yes I am a small dairy. How is it a problem for the industry if mega dairies have a hard time filling low paying jobs? As I said before nobody forced them to have so many cows. This is going to bite the industry in the butt sonner or later. We are talking about the illegals.
