AAD’s milk leukocyte differential (MLD) test, marketed as QScout™ MLD, is a faster, more accurate way to identify quarter-level subclinical mastitis on the farm in an average of 3 mintues per cow. The test identifies, differentiates and provides the ratio of the three predominant leukocytes (white blood cells) in the milk of each quarter to detect the presence of subclinical mastitis, before symptoms are even visible to the producer. This is possible because each cell type has a different role in the immune system. The Performing the MLD at critical time points during the lactation cycle, such as soon after calving and at dry-off, allows for informed intervention strategies and better animal health, milk quality and economic outcomes. As the attached research indicates, using the MLD at dry-off can nearly cut antibiotic use in half. The test is performed as shown in the attachment by inserting the QScout MLD test slide in the QScout Farm Lab.
