U.S. dairy products aren't the only dairy-related exports getting hammered by a stronger U.S. Dollar and backups in western ports.
According to USDA’s Foreign Ag Service, January 2015 U.S. female dairy cattle exports totaled just 431 head, valued at $880,000. Both quantity and value were the lowest since June 2009.
Alfalfa hay exports totaled 110,112 metric tons in January, the smallest volume since July 2011. The alfalfa hay was valued at $38.5 million.
Exports of other hay suffered the same fate. At 111,999 metric tons, it was the smallest volume since December 2008. The other hay was valued at $37.8 million.
