We've been telling you about a second round of coronavirus aid payments going to farmers, and now we know more about what it will mean specifically for dairy.

Here is how the payments will be calculated:

  • Producers total actual milk production from April 1, 2020, to Aug. 31, 2020, multiplied by the payment of $1.20 per cwt.
  • Estimated milk production from Sept. 1, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2020, based on daily average production from April 1, 2020 to Aug. 31, 2020, multiplied by 122, multiplied by a payment rate of $1.20 per cwt.

Experts say talk to your Farm Service Agency to get further details on how the program could help your operation.

Blue Bell to Pay $17 Million in Criminal Penalties

Blue Bell Creameries of Texas has been ordered to pay more than $17 million in criminal penalties.

It stems from the 2015 listeria outbreak. The company pleaded guilty to criminal charges for shipment of contaminated products. The U.S. Department of Justice says the fine is the largest criminal penalty following a conviction in a food safety case. Ten people were sickened and three people died.
