The preliminary All Farm Products Index of prices received by U.S. farmers in January rose 1.5% from December 2009, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reported today.
The Crop Index is unchanged but the Livestock Index increased 3.4%.
For dairy, the January index is unchanged from a month ago but 24% higher than January 2009. The January all-milk price of $16.50/cwt is unchanged from last month but up $3.20/cwt. from January 2009. The fluid grade milk price is unchanged but the manufacturing grade milk price is down 30¢ from the previous month.
In general, U.S. producers received higher prices for broilers, cattle, hogs and apples, and lower prices for lettuce, corn, broccoli and soybeans.
