Mike Opperman has been named the new Executive Director of the National Dairy Shrine (NDS), replacing David Selner who is retiring July 31.
Opperman comes to NDS with more than 30 years of dairy and agriculture experience, including marketing communications with Charleston/Orwig and editorial experience with Farm Journal. He currently owns Black Dirt Communications, Fort Atkinson, Wis.
Selner retires after a long career in the dairy A.I. industry and 13 years as NDS Executive Director. During his tenure, NDS has seen significant growth, particularly in the number and amount of scholarship awarded to students. He also oversaw improvements to the National Dairy Shrine Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wis., to enhance educational opportunities and visitor experience.
“Selner’s passion and knowledge of the dairy industry is second to none,” says Nate Janssen, NDS board president. “We knew the day would come when Dr. Selner would want to retire, and we are confident that Mike Opperman, with his extensive experience, will continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Dr. Selner.”
The NDS headquarters will transfer from Denmark, Wis. to Fort Atkinson August 1. New contact information: National Dairy Shrine, P.O. Box 68, Fort Atkinson, Wis. 53538. Phone: 920-542-1003
