Springer Values Rebounding

( Maureen Hanson )

Livestock auctions across the country continue to maintain social distancing policies and many have other altered formats, but Holstein springer prices held steady or climbed to pre-COVID levels in May. Turlock Livestock Auction Yard in California reported steady springer values with strong demand at their May 29 sale. They also issued prices from a May 1 dairy video sale, showing average Holstein springer values ranging from $$1,030 to 1,365, and Jersey springers at $1,165. While springer values were steady for both Wisconsin and Idaho, Wisconsin prices remained considerably lower. USDA reports from New Holland Sales Stables in Pennsylvania remain suspended. May Holstein heifer calf trade was extremely light with low values.
