Alfalfa Winterkill Takes Toll in Wisconsin
Some dairy producers in Wisconsin are reporting severe alfalfa winterkill, placing even more strain on razor-thin forage supplies.
One producer in Fond du Lac County in eastern Wisconsin reports losing 200 acres, or roughly 40% of her family’s alfalfa acreage.
Many farmers were hoping bare spots and bare fields were simply a sign of a late spring. But closer examination has found dead or dying plants.
