Minnesota Beef Council Wants To Double Checkoff
The Minnesota Beef Council is hoping to double the amount of the beef checkoff to $2 per head. If approved, the new rate would apply to cattle—both beef and dairy—born and sold in the state for meat, according to the Minnesota Agri News.
Currently, each animal is assessed $1, with 50¢ going to the national beef promotion program and the remaining 50¢ remaining in the state. The additional $1 generated, if approved by producer referendum, would remain in the state.
The referendum is scheduled for February 2014. You can read more here.
