Debunking Dairy Methane Myths
John Fetrow, a veterinarian with the University of Minnesota College of Vet Medicine, has thoroughly debunked continually surfacing myths that dairy cows are the source of rising greenhouse gas emission and are fed diets laden with antibiotics.
Fetrow’s op ed piece was carried in today’s issue of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
His commentary came in response to a Sunday book review of “Cowed,” a book that claims dairy cows contribute almost 15% of U.S. methane emissions and that cows are routinely fed antibiotics.
The reviewer, a professor of English, called the book “far reaching and deeply researched.” Fetrow’s analysis points out it was neither.
