OSHA LEP 'Dairy Dozen' Inspections to Continue in Wisconsin
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections of Wisconsin dairy farms will continue for fiscal year 2016 (through Sept. 30, 2016), according to a state agricultural safety specialist.
UW-Extension Agriculture Safety & Health Specialist Cheryl Skjolaas said OSHA’s Local Emphasis Program (LEP) inspections focus on common hazardous dairy farm activities – called the “Dairy Dozen.” However, while the list identifies 12 items for inspection (see below), additional items may be added. For example, if during a safety inspection the OSHA Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO) identifies potential health hazards, the inspection may be expanded to include a health inspection. Additionally, outside contractors performing work on the dairy operation may be incorporated into the scope of the inspection.
