Wal-Mart To Build State-of-the-Art Milk Processing Plant in Indiana
The Fort Wayne, Ind. News Sentinel reports this morning that Wal-Mart will build a state-of-the-art fluid milk processing plant near Fort Wayne.
Construction of the 250,000 square foot facility will begin this summer, and milk processing operations are expected to begin by the summer of 2017.
“By operating our own plant and working directly with dairy co-ops in the Midwest, we’ll further reduce operating costs and pass those savings on to our customers so they can save money,” says Tony Airoso, Wal-Mart’s senior vice president of global food sourcing.
The $180 million plant will supply milk to the 600 Wal-Mart and Sam Club stores in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and northern Kentucky.
