Could Congress Pass Trade Deal After Election?
Chances for passing the 12-nation Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement, which includes ag and dairy exports, may depend on the lame duck session of Congress that will happen after November's election.
But there is plenty of strong anti-TTP rhetoric in the presidential campaigns, with both Republican and Democratic presidential candidates have come out against the deal. So what are its chances of getting approved? President Obama is pushing for the pact’s approval, but it can’t happen without enough votes in Congress.
Some observers say there could be enough votes in the Senate, but not in the House, at least not yet. Congressional leaders have downplayed the chances of the trade deals's passage.
