Dairy Farmers of Canada: Not Our Problem to Manage U.S. Production
A group of senators is urging the Trump administration to act against what they call “trade barriers” that are restricting U.S. dairy farmers’ access to Canada.
Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Tammy Baldwin, (D-Wis.) sent a letter to the administration saying the trade barriers are hurting American dairy farmers and processors.
Canada’s new milk pricing has led processors like Grassland Dairy Products, Inc. to cancel contracts with dairies in Wisconsin.
Isabelle Bouchard, director of government relations for Dairy Farmers of Canada told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
“We don’t feel good about U.S. farms going out of business. But you know what? It’s not our responsibility. It’s your own responsibility, as a country, to manage your production.”
