All-Milk Price Hits Record
USDA reported this week the August all-milk price at $22/cwt, a dime higher than July and $5.30 higher than a year ago.
Florida reported the highest milk price in the country, at $25.80. Idaho was the lowest, at $19.90.
Through June, at least, commercial disappearance of dairy products was still in the black, with nonfat dry milk up 10% and total cheese up 2.6%. Only butter lagged year earlier levels, down 8.7%.
Prices for dairy cows reflected these stronger milk prices. The U.S. average price for dairy cows was $1,480/head in July. That’s $160 higher than in July 2010.
Vermont, of all places, reported the strongest cow prices at $1,600/head. Missouri cows were valued the least, at $1,290.
