Top New Dairy Products
Three dairy products make World Ag Expo’s hot list
Considering that the World Ag Expo takes place in the nation’s No. 1 milk-producing county, it’s no surprise that three of its 2012 Top 10 New Products are directly related to dairying.
All 10 products were featured Feb. 14–16 at the 45th annual event in Tulare, Calif. A group of farmers, ranchers and industry professionals selected the winners.

Here are the three Top 10 dairy-related products:
- The ai24 SCR HR-Tag, by Micro Dairy Logic and Semex, tracks cow rumination and activity levels to provide unique insight into cow well-being and reproductive status. Worn around the cow’s neck, the tag uses SCR’s Heatime activity monitoring platform to provide an accurate and easy-to-use heat detection tool. It also uses a specially tuned microphone to monitor rumination time, chewing rhythm and time between feed boluses.
- The DeLaval AMR, by DeLaval, Inc., is the first auto-mated milking system for rotary milking parlors. Designed for producers milking more than 300 cows, it can be used with all breeds in a range of farming practices, from freestalls and loose housing to pasture-based operations. A 24-position rotary system provides 9 to 12 minutes of milking time, completing a rotation in 12 to 15 minutes.
- The Hoof-Tec Complete Footbath System, by Hoof-Tec Footbath Solutions, is a one-step process that simplifies control of hoof diseases in dairy cows. An innovative pump dispenses a premixed liquid solution into water at just the right concentration. At a cost of just 7¢ to 10¢ per cow, it’s highly effective against bacteria without causing tissue damage that can slow down the healing process and lead to infection.
Three other dairy products earned honorable mention: the ColoQuick MAXX colostrum management system from Golden Calf Company LLC, a clean and simple way to manage colostrum; HealMax, from AgroChem, Inc., a breakthrough treatment that offers three ways to control heel warts in dairy cows; and the Waterproof V-Neck Scrub and Sleeved Apron, from Udder Tech, Inc.
Some 100,000 people from 70 countries attended World Ag Expo this year, with 1,600 exhibitors on 2.6 million square feet of show grounds.
