Dairy Report: Butter and Cheese Consumption Hit New Records in 2021

Both American cheese and butter have been on an upward trend for the last 11 years.

Butter and cheese consumption hit new records last year, according to the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF). Both American cheese and butter have been on an upward trend for the last 11 years. The organization says the rising popularity is offsetting fluid milk consumption.

“Though other dairy products have had their ups and downs, for the past decade butter and cheese have been Old Reliables, with neither ever seeing consumption decline a single time,” NMPF states. “Their rising popularity has offset drops in fluid-milk consumption and is a big part of the industry’s continued success and bright future.”

August Milk Production Report

The latest milk production report continues to show positive growth. USDA reports that milk production was up 1.6% in August compared to last year. In comparison, cow numbers declined 11,000 head year-over-year.
