New Holland ForageCam Delivers Real-Time Kernel Processing Scores

AI-driven camera technology continuously monitors and adjusts kernel processing to maximize forage quality while reducing fuel consumption and machine wear.

New Holland is giving producers the ability to capture real-time kernel processing scores with the ForageCam on its lineup of FR Forage Cruisers. The technology enables producers and operators to monitor live crop flow and quality while optimizing performance to achieve target kernel processing scores in real time.

“Whether it’s a dairy operation or a custom operation chopping for dairy or feedlots, they can now know exactly the level of processing they are currently at,” says Patrick Weitzel, product marketing manager for the FR Forage Cruiser in North America.

Real-Time Quality Tracking

ForageCam continuously analyzes the chopped corn flow as it monitors the percentage of fully processed kernels. It also compares that data against the target processing levels predetermined by the operator.

“The AI-driven camera is mounted to the spout that is analyzing the kernel processing score of the feed as it goes through the spout,” Weitzel explains.

The data is being used to continuously and automatically adjust the kernel processor to achieve:

  • Target forage quality
  • Eliminate underprocessing
  • Boost productivity
  • Minimize fuel consumption
  • Reduce machine wear

Combined, these features contribute to lower total harvesting costs and improved forage quality, according to New Holland.

Kernel processing scores and mapping data captured by ForageCam can be viewed live in the cab through the IntelliView IV Plus display or later via detailed reports and map layers in FieldOps.

More Throughput, Less Wear

Weitzel explains that many operators traditionally clamp down processor rolls to minimize the gap and avoid underprocessing. With ForageCam, that’s no longer necessary. In fact, producers might be able to open up the processor rolls to gain additional throughput.

“They’re going to gain fuel efficiency, and they’re going to put less wear on their processor. It’s kind of a win-win for the customer and the custom operation,” he says.

Maximize Feed Value

Producers and operators can set desired kernel processing scores based on livestock type through the ForageCam system, ensuring every corn kernel is properly cracked to maximize nutrient absorption and improve overall animal nutrition.
